A family tradition of Jyotiṣa, taught in the open.
Jyothishmathi is the practice and teaching home of Kaladharan TN — an astrologer of thirty-three years, born into a line of professional astrologers and trained under his guru, Onakoor Sankara Ganakan.
We do two things. We prepare horoscopes and sit with people who need an answer to a real question. And we teach classical Kerala Jyotiṣa to students who want to learn it properly — from the texts, with the calculations done by hand, before any software is opened.
How we got here
Four inheritances, in order.
- The familyKaladharan Master was born into a lineage of professional astrologers. Jyotiṣa was not a subject taken up later in life — it was the household language, and the respect for it came before the learning did.
- The guruWhat was inherited was then formally trained. He studied under Onakoor Sankara Ganakan, in the guru–śiṣya relationship the tradition depends on: correction in person, over years, on real charts.
- The decisionHe served in the Local Self Government Department before taking voluntary retirement — leaving a secure post to give the whole of his working life to astrology rather than the hours left over from it.
- The academyThirteen batches later, Jyothishmathi Academy exists so the method survives the generation that holds it. Published syllabus, published fees, small batches, no shortcuts.
The teacher
Kaladharan TN
He teaches the principle behind a prediction before he teaches the prediction. A student who can only repeat what software says has learned nothing that will hold up in front of a worried family — so charts are cast by hand first, and read against the classical texts: Bṛhat Jātakam, Praśna Mārga, Phaladīpikā.
He consults and teaches in Malayalam and English, and continues to study — a point he makes to every batch.

Four things we will not compromise on.
The principle comes before the prediction
Every reading has to be traceable back to a rule in a text and a calculation you can show. Students spend their first weeks casting charts on paper for exactly this reason — software is a convenience, not a teacher.
The guru–śiṣya relationship, not a video library
Batches are capped at 45 so that questions get answered by name and mistakes get corrected in front of the class. Sessions are live; recordings exist for people who missed one, not as a substitute for attending.
Everything published before you pay
The full syllabus, the fees, the instalments and the session count are on the website. Nobody has to make a phone call to find out what a course contains or what it costs.
Astrology used for clarity, never for fear
A chart is read to help someone decide something — a marriage, a move, a business. We say when a consultation will not help, and we ask students not to charge strangers until they have been supervised through real casework.

Learn to read a chart yourself
Three programmes, from a 20-week foundation through a one-year predictive course to an 18-month advanced track with supervised consultations. Taught live in Malayalam, in the Kerala traditional method, with a diploma on completion.
